Hi, I’m Kära.

The world can be a confusing place. We get messages to do more, be more, and get more. If you have ever felt pressure creeping in, you are not alone. If you have ever needed a little more support, I understand that completely. If you deal with heavy stuff and need a lifeline, that makes sense. Therapy is a carved-out time just for you and I hope you find its value for your own journey.

I am a single mom of two teenagers and one little dog named Nutmeg. My two kids are busy with their interests so we value our down time. One of my favorite things to do is find a comfortable chair with my favorite snacks and watch a movie with my kids. I also enjoy cooking, especially if it is on the grill, being outside if it is not too hot, listening to or singing music, and reading when I can find the time.

Kära Tanaka, Intern

She/Her

For most of my adult life, I have been a teacher in public schools. The main age group I have worked with are middle schoolers but I have worked with all ages from preschool to high school. I have loved being a teacher because of the children I have gotten to work with and their families. I want to do more for people in our community and decided to pursue a degree in Social Work so I can help in new ways. My internship at Champaign Counseling is the final leg of my journey toward my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Illinois.

I love working with people of all ages and stages in life. As a teacher, I fell in love with working with others and helping them grow. I am excited to help you in a therapy setting as well. Your uniqueness is one of the best parts about you and I would love to learn about your story. I believe that everyone deserves therapy time and hope you find exactly what you are looking for in a therapist. You deserve all the good things waiting for you. I encourage you to explore a little to find what and who is your best fit. If I can be a part of your journey, I’d be honored.
