Hi, I’m Ben.

Are you feeling ostracized, excluded, “othered,” or ridiculed?  Feeling as if you are placing unrealistic expectations on yourself, with very little perceived room for error?

It’s an awful feeling: the world's weight on your shoulders, not knowing where you fit, wondering where it’s safe to connect and gain support.  Attempting to navigate this terrain on your own can feel insurmountable.

The great thing is that there is hope; you don’t have to go through it alone.  I have worked in several different settings, including residential care, healthcare, community outpatient mental health, and at the University of Illinois.  My therapeutic approach is warm, inviting, and direct.  I’m passionate about my work and take great care in attending to my client’s needs, working collaboratively to reach their goals.  There is nothing more professionally rewarding than to witness and be part of a client’s growth.

Benjamin Bernstein, LCSW

He/Him

If you’re viewing this page, that’s a HUGE step toward a major undertaking.  I’m not going to sugarcoat it; psychotherapy is a difficult process, and a rewarding one.  It is easy to feel vulnerable talking about your feelings, your hopes, and your struggles.  Sometimes, as the old saying goes, “the only way out is through.”

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and received my master’s degree in social work from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  I have experience with many different populations, with more emphasis in my current work with individuals ages 18 and over (with certain exceptions based on functioning level).  I work with clients who are suffering from depression, generalized anxiety, social anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Panic Disorder, grief, relationship concerns, workplace/academic stress, emotion dysregulation, major life transitions, and geriatric concerns, and I am an LGBTQIA+ affirming clinician.

Activities that I engage in outside of work include spending quality time with family (including our corgi, Bruce) and friends, playing the guitar, reading, and playing video games. Oh, and I also love watching sports, most notably cheering on the Green and Gold every week during football season. Yes, I’m a Packers fan.

I want to help you be your own most effective self-advocate, giving you the tools you need to navigate this ever-changing and stressful world. I will meet you where you are, wherever that is, without judgment. I look forward to collaborating with you.
