Is Therapy Right for Me?
There are many reasons why people come to therapy. In general, if you are overwhelmed by a particular issue or are experiencing an issue that interferes with your day to day life, it’s a good idea to seek therapy. Working with a therapist can help provide insight, support, and new strategies for all types of life challenges. Therapy is right for anyone who is interested in getting the most out of their life by creating greater self-awareness and working towards change in their life.
Do I really need therapy? I've always handled my own problems!
Everyone goes through challenging situations in life. While you may have successfully navigated through other difficult times you’ve faced, there’s nothing wrong with seeking out extra support when you need it. In fact, therapy is for people who have enough self-awareness to realize they need additional support.
How Can Therapy Help Me?
Therapists can provide support, problem-solving skills, and enhanced coping strategies for issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship troubles, unresolved childhood issues, grief, and stress management. Many people find therapy to be a tremendous asset in managing personal growth, interpersonal relationships, family concerns, marriage issues, and the stress of everyday life. The benefits you obtain from therapy depends on how well you use the process and put into practice what you learn.
What Should I Expect at the First Session?
The purpose of the first session is so that you and your therapist can get to know one another and discuss your goals for your therapy. Your therapist recognizes that it may be difficult to discuss some personal information at first and you may need time to develop a relationship with your therapist before you’re ready to discuss certain topics. It’s normal to feel overwhelmed during the first session and to not know exactly where to begin. I will ask you questions to help you tell your story.
Here are some common reasons people contact us:
Do you feel like you and you partner are just roommates now? Long term relationships are hard! Oftentimes the stress of parenting, paying bills, and/or managing all of the moving parts of life cause those relationships to deteriorate. We work to help you re-connect and get your relationship back on track.
Are you getting calls from school about your child’s behavior? Have you noticed a change in your child’s mood or behavior? Kids tend to process their emotions about changes in their life differently than adults. Let us help you and your child!
Sometimes parenting can leave you at a complete loss for what to do next. You feel like you’ve tried everything and nothing seems to change. We can help to teach you new skills or make adjustments to what you are already doing to start seeing success. We will support you through the process.
We work with people that are dealing with various issues related to anxiety, depression, trauma life transitions and maternity concerns. If you are unsure if we can help, send us an email, we’d love to talk.
